Detailed History
Five Leyland Olympian's with ECW bodywork were purchased new in 1983 which entered service in NBC Leaf Green & White livery. They were almost identical to the batch delivered in 1982 but featured revised cooling system grilles.

Between 1985 and 1990 the entire batch had the front upper window vents replaced with non-opening fixed glass in:
September 1985: WDL692Y [692]
November 1985: WDL696Y [696]
By June 1986: WDL694Y [694]
January 1990: WDL693Y [693]
November 1990: WDL695Y [695]

In April 1986 WDL693Y [693] was repainted into a beige Colorbus advertisement for "Blackgang Chine".

In June 1988 WDL695Y [695] received a wrap-around advertisement for "Plumb Centre".

In August 1988 WDL692Y [692] was repainted into a Yellow & Blue Colorbus advertisement for "Lions Club of Ryde".

In October 1989 WDL694Y [694] was withdrawn.

Three of the remaining four were repainted into Emerald Green & Cream livery in:
September 1989: WDL696Y [696]
November 1990: WDL695Y [695]
December 1991: WDL692Y [692]

By August 1993 WDL693Y [693] had been repainted into a pink Colorbus advertisement for "Blackgang Chine".

Around the autumn of 1994 WDL692Y [692] / WDL693Y [693] / WDL695Y [695] & WDL696Y [696] were converted to DPH40/30F by having the bus seats replaced with coach-style seats. [per Buses magazine, December 1994]

In 1995 WDL695Y [695] was repainted into Mushroom & Dark Blue (roof & skirt) livery with a wrap-around advertisement for the IW Council unitary authority.

The remaining four were repainted into Mushroom & Dark Green livery:
By May 1995: WDL696Y [696]
In January 1996: WDL692Y [692]
In November 1997: WDL695Y [695]
In June 1998: WDL693Y [693]

During August 2001 WDL692Y [692] / WDL693Y [693] / WDL695Y [695] & WDL696Y [696] had been fitted with Day-glow destination blinds. [per Gavin Rowney]

During November 2002 WDL692Y [692] / WDL693Y [693] / WDL695Y [695] & WDL696Y [696] were withdrawn from service. [per Gavin Rowney]

Subsequent History

WDL692Y [692]:

  • In November 2002 it was sold to Hulme Hall Coaches of Cheadle Hulme. [per Gavin Rowney]
    Noted still with them on 5 January 2005. [per Richard Hughes]

WDL693Y [693]:

  • In November 2002 it was sold to Countryliner Coaches of Guildford operateing as their [RLH693].
    It was subsequently repainted (White with Light Green skirt) and named "Wight Lady".

WDL694Y [694]:

  • In October 1989 it was transferred to Solent Blue Line and repainted into their livery as number [694].
  • In August 2003 it was sold to Johnson Brothers of Hodthorpe.

WDL695Y [695]:

  • In November 2002 it was sold to Countryliner Coaches of Guildford operating as their [RLH695].
    By 6 February 2003 it had been repainted (White with Light Green skirt).
    It was subsequently named "Wight Princess".

WDL696Y [696]:

  • In November 2002 it was sold to Countryliner Coaches of Guildford operating as their [RLH696].
    It was subsequently repainted (White with Light Green skirt) and named "Wight Empress".
